So after a little digging I've decided to practice mindfulness meditation. I feel that a calm deliberate mind will help me progress further as I delve further in my learnings and experiences I plan on having. I started today with just ten minutes of breathing and trying to return to breathe whenever I found myself distracted. This seemed like a long time. But maybe I just need to train the mind and see how this progresses. I will try to keep you up to date with any progress, short comings and/or revelations.

Memory and Learning
I have always had an interest in increasing my mental capacity. I have often thought that, if I could learn the right techniques I could substantially increase the amount of information I could store AND retrieve. This is where it gets to the heart of what I'm doing here now. I always feel if I did X then I could expect Y, but my follow through is subpar at best. This interest is not new to me. About 8 years ago I bought books on learning and memory. I even read a couple of the chapters from each. The problem is that I never put the effort into actually practicing the techniques called out in the books. So for the next 90 days I will dedicate time to studying and implementing the techniques as described and verify if my intuition was right about how much easier learning will become. Now I'm not sure how to measure my success. I will start by reading the books again then I will decide a measurable (or subjective) test to determine the magnitude of change vs the effort put in.

The 90 day experiment
What is the 90 day experiment ?
This is kind of a tough one to explain. It is and is not a collection of experiments, ideas, lifestyle changes, and can be thought of as ideas or points of focus that I will obsess over for up to 90 days or longer. After 90 days of focus and implementation I will assess the changes that can be had in this short amount of time and the magnitude of the positive or negative effects. Some things will be just implementation and some may be just obsessions of a particular subject of interest to increase knowledge and/or competence.
The list: (no particular order and subject to change)
Language
Meditation
Yoga
Mathematics
Electronics
Wine
Memory
Dog training
Chemistry
Conversational hypnosis
Cooking
Now this is a rough list. I will try and refine the outcomes I am aiming for to have something to measure against.
Now you may have noticed that I can do more than one thing and/or one thing can piggyback on the outcome of another. This is the big idea. To build a road map that can be loosely followed to get a desired outcome with little effort, and proper planning and implementation. Just think, if a father and husband who works full time can accomplish this without sacrificing quality of family....anything is possible!
